The solution was to build a special kind of roof with collapsible trusses and hinges which could be transported in a flatter position. Once the home arrived on the job site the roof could be raised and the collapsed trusses swung into place. With the axles inverted, underslung axles, they could squeeze in a 3 to 12 roof pitch which was better looking, but still not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. They are built according to federal construction codes from Housing and Urban Development . A little off-topic for this thread but housing prices seem to be going up here in Western Washington. I have checked this site several times and there is nothing about cost or where to purchase or a contractor. I called a contractor and a mobile home supply and both did not know what I was talking about. My home is an older home, about 22 years, has a single roof which had a foam put over the singles and a coating when I purchased the home. I had another coating put on but the birds have pecked holes in the foam and I want something that will not have this problem with constant repair and having to have that coating put on.

There are so many factors at play (framing or stud size/condition of the roof/pitch of the home/age, size and design of the home, etc.) Sorry, I can’t be any help. Usually a professional will come out and do free estimates and they will be able to tell you whether your home can handle a second set of shingles. If your manufactured home’s roof truss sits completely upon a top plate it usually indicates a load bearing wall. I am not a roofer and I tried to email the one I know but never received a reply. I know this isn’t an answer but every model is different and some can absolutely withstand the really fancy shingles without additional support while other models will need reinforcement. I’d probably just remove it all and put a standing seam metal roof on it.
